Nails of the Week -- Favorite Fall Red

Hello, everyone!  I'm back with another Nails of the Week featuring one of my favorite nail polish shades -- Red.  Both the polish and top coat are from Essie, which is quickly becoming my top go-to nail polish brand.  This is also a perfect fall red!

For this look, to add some sparkle, I placed silver flower accents on my ring fingers.  I've had these particular nail decals for years, but I'm pretty sure I bought them at Target or Ulta in the drugstore nail section.  The beautiful deep red shade is Essie Bordeaux and the glossy top coat is Essie Gel Setter.

I'm so excited that fall is on its way because I'm always drawn to these dark polishes that are great for this time of year.  What are your favorite nail colors for fall?  Let me know in the comments!

Tea Tuesday - September - Drinking Zen

Hello, everyone!  Last month, I featured a dessert inspired tea for August.  This time around I wanted to go back to basics and share a great staple tea to have in your collection.  So, welcome back to Tea Tuesday and let's get started!

This month I chose Twinning's Pure Camomile Herbal Tea (buy in bulk here), which is based 100% of camomile blossoms.  With this being an herbal tea, it is naturally caffeine free and aids in relaxing the mind.  This is a great tea to sip on before bed and it helps you calmly fall asleep.  The flavor is pretty mellow and mild, so I enjoy adding some raw sugar or honey.

Please note: This post contains affiliate links through Magic Links.

I've tried other "calming/ sleep teas" and I would say this is average compared to others.  I'm going to continue to drink this tea, but I probably won't repurchase.  I found that I prefer camomile teas when they're combined with other herbs and flavors, such as lemon and mint.

What teas are you currently drinking?  Let me know below.  I would love to hear some of your favorites :)  They could be featured in an upcoming Tea Tuesday!

Nails of the Week -- Go Overboard!

Hello, everyone!  Happy Tuesday and welcome back for a new nail post.  This week, I'm using a new shade in my nail polish collection that I've been dying to try!  Let me know what you think of it!

Essie Go Overboard & Essie Gel Setter Top Coat

I kept the look very classic and simple.  This gorgeous teal is Essie Go Overboard, which is completely opaque and creamy.  To seal it off I chose Essie Gel Setter Top Coat that packs on the glossiness.  This is now my FAVORITE top coat and the best I tried!  It gives a ton of shine to the nails and truly prevents chipping.

I've quickly fallen in love with this beautiful, crisp teal shade for this week.  It makes me think of fall for some reason!  What are your nails of the week?  Share your pick with me below :)

Aurora Turned 4!

Hello, everyone!  I hope you're all having a great week.  Last weekend marked a special day for Paul and I's Alaskan Malamute, Aurora.  My big baby turned 4 on Sunday, August 16th!  I've talked about Aurora a few times in posts and many of you have enjoyed seeing her.

In celebration of her birthday, I wanted this post to be all about her.  Being the "Queen" she is, she would prefer it that way!  We've had her since a tiny 8 week old puppy and now she's our sweet, loyal lady.  Here's to one wonderful dog and companion -- WE LOVE YOU!

Her first day home!  She was so tiny :) This
was back in Oct. 2011
Aurora around 8-10 weeks.  Those ears! :)
I love this picture-- Aurora knows when I have the camera out!  She's wearing
her 'doggie bag' -- haha I couldn't believe she didn't mind wearing it.

A few more photos of Ms. Cuddle Bug :)  One with her sister Nala, some napping
and one from being at the park.
One of my favorite pictures with Aurora -- she does selfies pretty well.

I know this was a different compared to my usual posts, but I hope you still liked it.  Do you have any one-of-a-kind animals in your life?  Tell me about your buddies in the comments... I'd love to hear from you :)

FOTD - Simple Makeup Look

Hello, everyone!  Today's post is my first FOTD aka Face of the Day.  I wanted to share my current routine that's fast and to-the-point---perfect for days I need to run out the door.  This look is extremely simple, takes about 10 minutes and uses minimal products.

This entire look uses only seven products and some of them can be used in multiple ways.  I skipped foundation and only used concealer to cover my undereye area and brighten the face.  Bronzer is always my favorite (pale girl's best friend!) and gives my face a healthy sun kissed glow.  I have all the products listed below.  I hope you like it and find it useful!

Products Used:

Josie Maran Argan Creamy Concealer Crayon in Fair 1
Jane Iredale Bronzing Powder So-Bronze 2 -- Also Used as Eyeshadow in my crease
Maybelline Define-A-Brow in Light Brown
MAC Paint Pot in Painterly
Bare Minerals Lasting Line in Absolute Black -- Lined top, bottom & waterline
Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara in Very Black
NYX Butter Lip Balm in Lady Fingers

That's my current makeup routine when I need something quick and easy.  This look changes from time to time, but this is what I've been enjoying.  What are some of your go-to products?  Let me know in the comment section below :)

Tea Tuesday - August (Drinking Dessert!)

Hello, everyone! Happy August and Happy Tea Tuesday!  It's officially the first Tuesday in August, so of course, it's tea time... specifically Tea Tuesday.  I had so much fun picking out August's tea and I've been drinking it the last few weeks straight.  The delicious pick this month is Tazo Organic Peach Cobbler Tea -- Yes, you read that correctly!  This time we are drinking a dessert!

Tazo Organic Peach Cobbler Tea (find it here) is a black tea with notes of peach, apple and cinnamon.  The flavor is savory and sweet, but not too much.  My favorite way to drink it is with a teaspoon of raw sugar, which greatly enhances the yummy sweetness.  This tea also provides just the right amount of caffeine, so you can drink it anytime.  When I drink this tea, I feel like I'm treating myself.  I hope you all give this a try!

July's Tea Tuesday can be found here, Tea Tuesday -- Wisdom Tea? in case you missed it.

What teas are you currently drinking?  Let me know below.  I would love to hear some suggestions and they may be featured in an upcoming Tea Tuesday!

Pretty in Pink + New Essie Gel Setter ( 100TH POST! )

Hello, everyone!  It's been a couple weeks since I've done a nail post and actually have several new Essie products to share.  I've always been intrigued by the brand by of their gorgeous color selection and sleek packaging.  Finally I made my first purchase.

*Also on a side note, this marks my 100TH BLOG POST!  It's hard to believe and I'm pretty excited about it :) *

Anyways, back onto the post!  I bought this as a duo and there were several different color options available.  I chose the set with a beautiful pastel pink.  This shade is one of their classics and the Gel Setter Top Coat is new on the market.  The application was smooth and I love the brush applicators.  I've quickly fell in love!

Products Used: Purchased at Meijer (Retail $18.99 as duo package)
***Can also be purchased individually***

* Essie Nail Polish in 96 Ballet Slipper (find it here) -- Pale Pink, No Shimmer Creme Finish

* Essie Gel Setter Top Coat (find it here) -- Very Shiny & Glossy

Please note: This post contains affiliate links through Magic Links.

My thoughts so far on these Essie products?  They're amazing!  I painted my nails last Friday-today is Tuesday-and for the most part they are holding strong with only a couple tiny chips.  Even after several days, my nails are as shiny as Day 1.  That makes me happy :) Very happy!

What do you think of Essie?  These are the first products I've tried.  Share your opinions down below!

Tea Tuesday - Wisdom Tea? - Celestial Seasonings Wisdom Green Tea Review

Hello, everyone!  Welcome back for another Tea Tuesday and this is for the month of July, so that means I've been doing this for seven months now!  If you missed June's tea pick (it's a HOLY GRAIL tea of mine!), you can check it out HERE.

It's okay, go ahead check it out.. I'll wait :)

For July, I chose Celestial Seasonings Wisdom Green Tea with White Tea.  I chose this for many reasons, including the unique flavor combo and the fact it has an elephant on the box--who can't resist a cute dressed up elephant?  Elephants are known for being wise animals, so I guess that's why it's called Wisdom Tea.

Front & back of the box, which made partially of recycled materials and has
the cutest circus elephant on the front!

As mentioned in the title, this tea is different because it combines green  and white with lemon.  The flavor is mild and sweet and gives a little caffeine kick for the morning, which I love.  It's also full of amazing antioxidants and vitamins A & C.  There's 20 tea bags per box, but they are not individually wrapped like you would expect... they're grouped together in a paper bag inside the box.  (I have a photo below).

Overall I've been enjoying this tea, but it's not a favorite compared to others.  I think I prefer a tea to be either only green leaves or white leaves based, if you know what I mean.  That concludes July's Tea Tuesday!  Do you have an favorite teas I should try?  Let me know in the comments and they just might be featured in a future Tea Tuesday :)

Our Quilted Addition - Custom Quilt

Hello, everyone!  Welcome back for another post!  A few weeks ago I showed a bit of my crafty side by sharing my latest crochet piece in Cozy Home - Handmade Crochet Blanket.  Many of you enjoyed it, so I wanted to show our first quilt blanket that was custom made in Michigan.  This has been a long time in the making and it's finally completed!

Last November, my boyfriend Paul surprised me by taking my into a local quilt shop.  We were on a mini vacation for hunting season and we wanted to check out the downtown area.  There we found Backstreet Quilt Shop, this charming store managed by a mother and daughter team that offer classes, quilting supplies and specialize in custom order quilts.

We worked with Beckie--one of the owners--and chose a pattern along with all the fabric.  There were so many to chose from!  We took ages to narrow down our favorites and kept staking them together until we were content.  From there, we needed to decide on the quilting pattern, which holds all the layers of the blanket together.  We loved the leaf design and went with that.  Now that's one of our favorite parts!

Closeup of our beautiful quilt.  I love the leaf inspired quilt stitching!
They were very busy with orders for the holidays and the upcoming year so our blanket wasn't going to complete until June.  We were in no rush and loved that it was going to be handmade, so it was no big deal... and was definitely worth the wait!  Throughout the entire process I received updates and pictures of our quilt.

It's amazing to support a small local business and incredible artists.  The quality and craftsmanship in our blanket speaks for itself!  Everything about this piece is so well done and the stitching it perfect.   We're all in love with the quilt, especially Nala!  She loves to cuddle up in it every chance she gets!

Paul and I had an amazing experience working with Backstreet Quilt Shop.  It was so much fun deciding on a pattern, playing with fabric combinations and wandering the shop.  I loved seeing all the quilted creations that covered the walls and hallways inside.  We would love to work with them again in the future---maybe for a custom quilted bedspread?  Fingers crossed!

Pink for Summer - Nail Look

Hello, everyone!  Happy first Tuesday of summer... sorry if that was a bit too cheesy, but I love this time of year!  In celebration of a fresh new season, I wanted to clean up my nails and give them a nice polish.  I wanted something to match with this warm weather we've been having and trust me, in Michigan that's saying a lot!

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in 320 Fuchsia Power and 100 Invisible (top coat).
For this very simple look, both my color and top coat are from Sally Hansen's Xtreme Wear Nail Polish Line.  The beautiful bright pink is called 320 Fuchsia Power (find it here) which is very opaque and shimmer-free.  The glossy top coat is 100 Invisible (find it here).  I love wearing hot pink during the summer months, so I think this was a wise choice!  Invisible is also my FAVORITE nail polish top coat... the bottle is over half gone as you can see.  That's definitely an item I would repurchase once it's gone!

Nail Salon DAY - OPI Malaga Wine (Loving It!)

Hello, everyone!  Happy almost Friday... I hope you're all having a great week and enjoying some nice weather!  Here in Michigan we're having a mix of stormy and warm days.  As I type, it's sunny and 89 degrees!  Man, it's definitely getting the best of me!

Anyways, on today's post about my Nail Salon Day that was a birthday present from my boyfriend's parents.  I got a mani and pedi for the first time in at least a couple years.  I love getting my nails done, but it's something that I often forget about.  This was a really nice treat.  I went matchy-matchy and chose OPI Malaga Wine (find it here) this BEAUTIFUL deep, sexy red shade.  In fact, I'm so in love with this color that I may go on a hunt for it at ULTA.  Because well, I'm that obsessed with it!  Any of you get like that?

Here's the bottle --which I totally sneaked a photo of--shh don't tell!

Please note: This post contains affiliate links through Magic Links.

Here's the beautiful shade!  OPI Malaga Wine NL L87
Just a peek at my mani & pedi!  I've been LOVING taking photos on my patio.
It just gives a great earthly look, in my opinion!

There's my quick post on my nail salon day :)  I hope you enjoyed.  What's your current go-to summer shade?  Do you match your nails to your toes?  Let me know in the comments!  If you enjoyed please google+, comment and join this site (follow) for more.  You can also now follow me on Bloglovin' with the button that is on the upper right panel of this page.  You have an amazing rest of your day!

Cozy Home - Handmade Crochet Blanket

Hello, everyone!  I have a unique post today about my latest home decor project.  I've never shared this on my blog before, but I love crafting--jewelry making, home decor, crocheting... you name it, I've probably tried it.  I recently finished my first crocheted blanket and wanted to share it with all of you!

I've crocheted on and off for years, but this is the first time I've created a full size blanket.  I made the pattern myself, keeping simple and used only a couple stitches.  It's super chunky and cozy.. exactly what I was hoping for.  For those non-crocheters, I basically used three strands of yarn together with a large hook, which made this blanket very thick and quick to make.  The ending size was 4' by 5'.  Below is the yarn I used.

Caron Yarn One Pound was perfect for this blanket!  So soft & affordable.
I ended up using all the yarn in this photo.
It took me a few months to make this blanket, but I was taking my time and working on it when I felt like it.  There's something very soothing about crocheting and knitting... those of you that know how, probably know what I'm talking about.  When you're anxious or need to relax, just grab a crochet hook and get to cracking!  It's very enjoyable once you learn.

Close up of the stitches.. the trim was done in Lion's Brand Yarn just a single crochet.

Quick Breakdown if you're interested:  Simple Cozy Crochet Blanket

*Three Skeins of Yarn, your choice (I chose grey, ivory & white)
All are acrylic yarn which is machine washable.

*Large Crochet Hook -- Size US Q-19 15.00mm

*Keeping all strands together I stitched 50-60 chain stitches forming the width of the blanket.  I half crocheted the rest of the way to the desired length.  I made mine about 48" x 60" in size (before trim).

*The trim is in Lion Brand Homespun White Yarn and I just single crocheted once around. Nothing fancy this textured yarn does all the work for me.

I really enjoyed creating this blanket and happy it's finally completed.  I've been updating my home's look to create a more cozy cottage feel, so the ivory and grey color scheme worked well.  Now I get to grab my tea and cuddle up on the couch with it!

Tea Tuesday - My Holy Grail Green Tea!

Hello, everyone!  Welcome back for another Tea Tuesday!  I can hardly believe it, but June marks the 6-month anniversary to this beloved monthly segment.  If you missed May's fruity tea pick, you can check it out HERE.

For June, I'm pulling out the big guns and sharing a long-time favorite and holy grail tea.  I've been drinking Triple Leaf Green Tea (find it here) for over a year, usually every morning.  I'm completely hooked to it's simple earthy flavor and it's the perfect match for helping me wake up.  I major thing I love about this tea is that although it has a lot of flavor, I've never found it to be bitter or too strong.  Saying that, I don't even add anything extra because I love it on its own.

Please note: This post contains affiliate links through Magic Links.

I love green tea for it's array of beneficial qualities, so this tea is beyond just I taste thing for me.  Since I started drinking tea on a daily basis a few years ago, I've noticed many positive changes.  Green tea is amazing for weight loss and it definitely helps with random cravings.  Drinking tea is also a gentle way of helping your body detox.  My skin more clear and overall I feel much healthier.  My boyfriend has even experienced less heartburn.  These are just our personal experiences and the many reasons why we love tea.

You can purchase this tea a couple of ways.  My local meijer carries it in the natural foods section of their pharmacy and normally purchase it there.  If you don't have a meijer like I do or they don't stock it at your location, you can order it at Vitacost.com, which is my FAVORITE online health site and you cannot beat their prices.

Thanks for joining me for another Tea Tuesday!  If you're a tea lover like me, be sure to share some of your favorites down below and they may be featured in an upcoming Tea Tuesday post!  If you enjoyed please google+, comment and join this site (follow) for more.  You can also now follow me on Bloglovin' with the button that is on the upper right panel of this page.  You have an amazing rest of your day!

Perfect Red for Summertime Toes

Hello, everyone!  I hope you're all having a great week :)  Since the weather is FINALLY warming up here in Michigan, I thought I would give myself a pedicure using one of my favorite polishes.  Please don't mind my little feet... I'm only a size 6.

Let's get into today's post!  As far as I'm concerned, every girl should have a go-to red nail polish.  I would say it's almost as important as The Little Black Dress.  It's timeless, classic and elegant.  I decided to keep it short and sweet and painted them with Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Cherry Red.  I just love a classic red.... who doesn't right?

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Invisible 100 Top Coat & Cherry Red 07

As some of you have seen in previous nail posts, I frequently use Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Polishes and that would be because I think they're pretty great!  I love the color selection, quality and of course, the price... you can't beat a $2.97 polish that actually works!  I recommend that you give them a shot.

Thanks for joining me for today's post!  What is your favorite classic red or summertime nail shades?  Comment down below!  If you enjoyed please google+, comment and join this site (follow) for more.  You can also now follow me on Bloglovin' with the button that is on the upper right panel of this page.  You have an amazing rest of your day!

CULT Nails -- Vegan California Polish

Hello, everyone!  Back today with a new nail post... featuring CULT Cosmetics nail polish in Belmont Shore, this beautiful pink-lavender shade.  This nail shade was included in March's Vegan Cuts Beauty Box.  CULT Cosmetics is cruelty-free, vegan and made in California.  The polish is even 5-Free, which means it excludes five nasty chemicals that are found in standard nail polishes.  I'll admit, it's been several weeks since I've painted my nails--shhh don't tell!-- so I figured I'd FINALLY get some use of this shade!  I kept it simple, keeping it pink :)

I really love CULT Belmont Shore!  What do you think?
